Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Robert Anthony Smith, 19, (DOB: 12/06/2002), of Detroit, in connection with stealing multiple vehicles from the Flat Rock Ford Assembly plant.

On June 16, 2022, at approximately 3:30 a.m., it is alleged that the defendant stole multiple vehicles from the Flat Rock Ford Assembly plant. While on patrol in the area of Outer Drive and Northbound I-75 Freeway in Melvindale, Michigan State troopers located the defendant traveling northbound on I-75 and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. It is alleged that the defendant fled from the officers at a high rate of speed before being apprehended at Westbound I-96 Freeway near Martin Luther King Boulevard in Detroit.

Robert Anthony Smith has been charged with one count of Receiving and Concealing - $20,000 or more, one count of Receiving and Concealing - Motor Vehicle, one count of Unlawful Driving Away of a Motor Vehicle, and one count of Fourth Degree Fleeing. *

He was arraigned this afternoon in 36th District Court and given a $10,000 personal bond with a GPS tether. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for June 30, 2022, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for July 6, 2022, at 8:45 a.m., before Judge Kenyetta Stanford Jones.
