Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Marcus Lee Flowers, 28, (DOB: 03/23/1994), of Detroit, in connection with the arson of Dearborn Fresh Supermarket.

On May 8, 2022, at approximately 5:33 a.m., Dearborn police officers were patrolling a supermarket in the 13660 block of Colson Street in Dearborn when they observed the south side of the building engulfed in flames. Officers then observed Defendant Flowers driving away from the scene at a high rate of speed. When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the defendant fled from the officers, continuing at a high rate of speed. While officers were in pursuit, Defendant Flowers exited his vehicle and proceeded to flee on foot. After a brief foot chase, the defendant was apprehended at a residence in the 14660 block of Michels Street in Dearborn.

It is alleged that the defendant poured gasoline on the ground and lit it on fire, causing a fire to spread on the south side of the supermarket.

Marcus Lee Flowers has been charged with one count of Third-Degree Fleeing and Eluding and one count of Arson - Preparation to Burn. *

He was arraigned this afternoon in 19th District Court and given a $100,000 cash/surety bond with a GPS tether. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for May 20, 2022, at 8:00 a.m. before Judge Sam Salamey. Please request a photograph of the defendant from the Dearborn Police Department.
