Detroit Man Charged In Death Of His Mother
Prosecutor Kym worthy has charged Raymond Mealy, 36 (DOB: 2/14/1981), of Detroit, in connection with the death of his mother. On March 24, 2017 at approximately 12:45 p.m., it is alleged that Mealy beat his 64-year-old mother to death at their home located in the 7700 block of Bramell in Detroit. A relative came over to the home and discovered the lifeless body of the victim and called the police. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and the defendant was arrested.
Mealy has been charged with First Degree Murder* and was arraigned this morning before Magistrate Laura Echartea. The probable cause conference is scheduled for April 6, 2017 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for April 13, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Lydia Nance Adams in 36th District Court.
*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
