Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Deshaun Darvon Currie, 22, of Detroit, in connection with the fatal shootings of K'Von Thompson-Doze, 21, and Jamal Gibson, 20, also of Detroit.

On August 13, 2023, at approximately 11:00 p.m., in an alleyway in the 5080 block of Fredro Street in Detroit, it is alleged that an altercation between the defendant and the victims escalated, and Defendant Currie produced and fired a handgun, fatally wounding Mr. Thompson-Doze and fatally wounding Mr. Gibson. Mr. Gibson was privately transported to a local hospital for treatment.

He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on August 16, 2023. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of Defendant Currie on September 15, 2023. More facts and evidence will be placed on the record at the preliminary examination.

Deshaun Darvon Currie has been charged with two counts of Felony Murder, two counts of Premeditated First-Degree Murder, one count of Lying to the Police during a Violent Crime Investigation, and four counts of Felony Firearm. *

He was arraigned and remanded to jail this afternoon in 36th District Court before Magistrate Joseph Boyer. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for October 2, 2023, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for October 9, 2023, at 1:45 p.m., before Judge Kenneth King.
