Detroit Man Charged in Fatal Hit and Run
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Jorge Gabiel Vallecillo-Espinoza, 37, (DOB: 08/19/1979), of Detroit, in connection with the August 6, 2017 fatal car crash that occurred at 10:25 p.m. at Junction and Federal Streets in Detroit. It is alleged that VallecilloEspinoza was driving his car recklessly when he fatally struck Joseph Rutherford, 53, of Detroit. It is further alleged that Vallecillo-Espinoza fled the scene after striking the victim. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of the defendant. The defendant has been charged with Reckless Driving Causing Death and Failure to Remain on Scene of Fatal Car Incident.*
Vallecillo-Espinoza was arraigned this afternoon and received a $75,000/10% bond. The probable cause conference will be held on August 22, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. and the preliminary examination will be held on August 28, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. in 36th District Court.
* The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
