Defendant David Easterly, (DOB:08/20/1981), of Detroit, is being charged in connection with the homicide of Bernard Waller, (DOB: 03/04/1989), also of Detroit. On February 22, 2021, at 8:12 p.m., Michigan State Troopers were on patrol when they observed what appeared to be a traffic crash involving two cars on I-96 near Grand River in Detroit. When the Troopers investigated the crash scene, they discovered Mr. Waller deceased with several gunshot wounds on the westbound shoulder of I-96. On the eastbound side of I-96 they discovered Emmanuel Woodward, (DOB: 10/29/1993), of Detroit deceased. He is alleged to have been fatally struck by a car as he attempted to cross the freeway.

No further details are being released in this case because it remains under investigation by the Michigan State Police.

The defendant has been charged with First Degree Murder, Assault with Intent to Murder, Felon in Possession of Firearm, Carrying Concealed Weapon, and three counts of Felony Firearm 2nd Offense. Today the defendant was arraigned and remanded to jail in 36th District Court. His Probable Cause Conference is on March 9, 2021 and his Preliminary Examination is on March 16, 2021 before Judge Ronald Giles.
