Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Marion Johnson, 19, (DOB: 02/28/2003), of Detroit, in connection with the fatal shooting of Ciera Wells, 20, also of Detroit.

On March 21, 2022, Ms. Wells, her mother and her sister were driving on Maddelein Street near Hayes Road in Detroit when they heard multiple gunshots. Ms. Wells lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree. At approximately 11:29 a.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 14780 block of Maddelein Street. Upon their arrivals, officers observed Ms. Wells unresponsive in the driver's seat of the vehicle with a gunshot wound to her back. Officers transported her to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased. Defendant Johnson was taken into custody later the same day.

It is alleged that Defendant Johnson opened fire on the vehicle while Ms. Wells was driving. It is further alleged that the defendant mistakenly identified Ms. Wells' vehicle based upon its color and make.

Marion Johnson has been charged with one count of First-Degree Murder, two counts of Assault with Intent to Murder, and three counts of Felony Firearm. *

He was arraigned and remanded to jail this afternoon in 36th District Court. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for April 7, 2022, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for April 14, 2022, at 1:45 p.m., before Judge Kenneth King. Please request a photograph of the defendant from the Detroit Police Department.
