Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Colby Vaughn Hardy, 27, (DOB: 10/14/1993), of Detroit, in connection with the fatal shooting of his five-year-old son.

On January 20, 2021, at approximately 9:37 a.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 2420 block of Sturtevant Street in Detroit for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers located the child with a gunshot wound to the face. Medics arrived on scene and transported the child to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

It is alleged that the defendant's 18-month-old nephew found an unsecured handgun in the home and fired it, fatally striking the victim in the face.

Colby Vaughn Hardy has been charged with one count of Involuntary Manslaughter, one count of Second-Degree Child Abuse, and one count of Felony Firearm. *

He was arraigned on September 20, 2021 in 36th District Court and given a $10,000 personal bond. He was also ordered to have no weapons and a GPS tether with full house confinement. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for September 28, 2021 and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for October 5, 2021 in 36th District Court before Judge Kenneth King.
