Detroit Man Charged in Homicide of Roommate
On October 10, 2022, at approximately 1:40 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 5040 block of Fairview Street for a well-being check. Upon their arrival, officers located the victim inside the home unresponsive, and not breathing. Medics arrived on scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
It is alleged that on October 8, 2022, Defendant Canty killed the defendant with blunt force trauma. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of the defendant on October 10, 2022.
Corey Stacey Canty has been charged with one count of Premeditated First-Degree Murder. *
He was arraigned and remanded to jail on October 12, 2022, in 36th District Court. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for October 26, 2022, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for November 2, 2022, at 1:45 p.m., before Judge Kenneth King.
