On November 28, 2020, Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged John E. Baldwin, 43 (DOB: 04/12/1977), in connection with the homicide of Sarita Rebekah Neal, 41, both of Detroit.

On November 13, 2020, at approximately 11:18 a.m. Detroit police officers were dispatched to the area of Lappin Street and Schoenherr Road where they observed a lifeless woman lying in an alley. The woman was later identified as Ms. Neal. She was transported to the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office where it was determined that she died from a single gunshot wound to the head.

On November 25, 2020, after an extensive investigation the Detroit Police Department arrested Defendant Baldwin for the murder of Ms. Neal. On November 13, 2020, the defendant and Ms. Neal were acquainted, and it is alleged that he fatally shot her, drove her in a car, and left her remains in the alley near Lappin Street and Schoenherr Road. He later set the car on fire at another location. More specific facts and evidence will be presented in court at the preliminary examination.

The defendant has been charged with: First Degree Murder; two counts of Assault with Intent to murder; Tampering with Evidence; Felon in Possession of a Firearm; False Report of a Felony; and three counts of Felony Firearm.

He was arraigned over the weekend in 34th District Court in Romulus. His Probable Cause Conference is on December 9, 2020 at 8:30 a.m. and his Preliminary Examination is on December 16, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. in 36th District Court.
