Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Derrick Ford, 54, (DOB: 09/17/1966), of Detroit, in connection with the fatal shooting of John Corbeil, 43, also of Detroit.

On May 10, 2021 at approximately 9:48 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to residence in the 19680 block of Hull Street in Detroit for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers located the victim on the front lawn of the residence with an apparent gunshot wound. Medics arrived on scene and transported the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. It is alleged that a physical altercation between the defendant and the victim escalated and Defendant Ford fatally shot Mr. Corbeil.

Derrick Ford has been charged with one count of Open Murder, one count of Discharging a Firearm from a Motor Vehicle Causing Death, and two counts of Felony Firearm. He was arraigned on May 14, 2021 in 36th District Court before Judge Joseph Boyer. His Probable Cause Conference is on May 28, 2021 and his Preliminary Examination is on June 4, 2021 before Judge Kenyetta Stanford-Jones.
