Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Michael Dewayne Gordon Jr., 21, (DOB: 11/03/1999), of Detroit, in connection with a car crash that killed Gregory Due, 28, of Taylor.

On August 1, 2020, at approximately 2:20 a.m., Michigan State police officers were dispatched to eastbound I-96 freeway near Schaefer Highway in Detroit for a reported two-vehicle wrong way crash. Upon their arrival, the victim's vehicle was engulfed in flames causing fatal injuries. Medics arrived on scene and pronounced the victim deceased. Defendant Gordon was transported to a local hospital for treatment to his injuries.

It is alleged that the defendant was driving westbound in the eastbound express lanes on I-96 at a high rate of speed when he collided head on with the victim's vehicle, fatally injuring him.

Michael Dewayne Gordon Jr. has been charged with one count of Reckless Driving Causing Death, a felony with a 15-year maximum penalty and one count of Moving Violation Causing Death, a one-year misdemeanor. *

He was arrested today and was arraigned today in 36th District Court. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for December 2, 2021 in 36th District Court before Judge Kenneth King. Please request a photograph of the defendant from the Michigan State Police.
