Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Martell Lanier Blunt, 21, of Detroit, in connection with the fatal shooting of Antonio Jenkins, 27, also of Detroit.

On September 1, 2023, at approximately 11:35 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to the area of Joy Road and Lawton Street for a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, officers observed the victim in the driver's seat of his vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Medics arrived on the scene and pronounced Mr. Jenkins deceased. It is alleged that Defendant Blunt was seated in the front passenger seat of the victim's vehicle when he produced and fired a handgun multiple times, fatally wounding Mr. Jenkins.

Martell Lanier Blunt has been charged with First-Degree Murder and Felony Firearm. *

He was arraigned and remanded to jail on September 4, 2023, in 36th District Court before Magistrate William Burton. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for September 14, 2023, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for September 21, 2023, at 1:45 p.m., before Judge Kenneth King.
