Detroit Man Charged in Non-Fatal Shooting of Autistic Male
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Robert Lequan Pugh, 47, of Detroit, in connection with the non-fatal shooting of an 18-year-old autistic male of River Rouge.
On April 9, 2025, at approximately 1:29 p.m., the victim was mistakenly dropped off in the area of Lenox Street and East Warren Avenue in Detroit by a driving service When the victim took a photo of a home in the 4800 block of Lenox Street to send to a relative to help to locate him, it is alleged that Defendant Pugh confronted the victim. When the victim began to walk away from the home towards East Warren Avenue, it is further alleged that Defendant Pugh fired a handgun multiple times, striking the victim in the lower back, non-fatally wounding him. Medics arrived on the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment. The defendant turned himself in at the Fifth Precinct of the Detroit Police Department on April 15, 2025.
Robert Lequan Pugh has been charged with Assault with Intent to Murder, Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm, Carrying a Weapon with Unlawful Intent, and three counts of Felony Firearm.*
"It is hard for me to fathom the utter lack of compassion and empathy in some people. The alleged facts in this case are disturbing and completely devoid of humaneness," said Prosecutor Kym Worthy.
He was arraigned this afternoon in 36th District Court before Magistrate William Burton and received a $100,000 cash/surety bond with a GPS tether. A bond re-determination hearing is scheduled for April 21, 2025, at 9:00 a.m., before Judge William McConico. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for April 28, 2025, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for May 5, 2025, at 8:45 a.m., before Judge Ronald Giles. Please request a photograph of the defendant from the Detroit Police Department.
*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
