Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Jesse Glenn Maybin, 44, of Detroit, in connection with the non-fatal stabbing of James Little Jr., 66, of Detroit.

On July 16, 2023, at approximately 10:10 a.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a liquor store in the 9960 block of Gratiot Avenue for a reported robbery and stabbing. Upon their arrival, officers located the victim lying on the ground in the parking lot, suffering from stab wounds to the back, neck, and eye. Medics arrived on scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment.

It is alleged that Defendant Maybin stabbed the victim multiple times with a knife before robbing him and fleeing the scene. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of the defendant on July 18, 2023.

Jesse Glenn Maybin has been charged with one count of Assault with Intent to Murder, one count of Armed Robbery, and one count of Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm. *

He was arraigned this morning in 36th District Court before Magistrate Malaika Ramsey-Heath and given a $500,000 cash bond. A bond re-determination hearing is scheduled for July 24, 2023, at 9:00 a.m., before Judge William McConico. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for July 28, 2023, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for August 3, 2023, at 8:45 a.m., before Judge Kenneth King. Please request a photograph of the defendant from the Detroit Police Department.

"Deja vu. Another case where a completely innocent victim minding his own business was seriously assaulted. Violence is not always gun violence. We need to pay attention to it all - all the time," said Prosecutor Kym Worthy.

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
