Today Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Dante Louis Coker, aka Dante Binion, 21 (DOB: 08/03/1995), of Detroit, in connection with the fatal shooting of his father Murray Upshaw, 40, and a female acquaintance, Sharietta Jefferson, 27, both of Detroit.

On May 6, 2017 at approximately 10:13 p.m. in the family home located in the 8700 block of Epworth, it is alleged that after a brief verbal exchange, Coker fatally shot the two victims and fled the scene. Detroit Police later located and arrested the defendant on May 7, 2017 at East Warren and Eastlawn in Detroit.

Coker has been charged with two counts of First Degree Premeditated Murder and one count of Felony Firearm*. He was arraigned in 36th District Court this afternoon before Magistrate Millicent Sherman. The probable cause conference is scheduled for May 19, 2017 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for May 26, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge Lydia Nance Adams in 36th District Court.

*The charges referred to herein are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
