On Wednesday, October 7, 2015, Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy charged Devin Deveon Sims, 17 (DOB: 3/14/98), in connection with the homicide of Mylin Toron Jenkins, 24 (DOB: 10/2/91). Both men are from Detroit. On October 5, 2015 at approximately 3:30 a.m., in front of a location in the 16200 block of Steel Street, it is alleged that Jenkins was seated in the driver's seat of a car when he was fatally shot in the head by Sims, who was seated in the rear passenger portion of the car. After the shooting, Sims removed Jenkins's body from the car and drove off. At approximately 1:00 p.m. on the same day, investigation by the Detroit Police Department led them to a location in the 20000 block of Ohio Street, where it is alleged that Sims had barricaded himself in the house, but later surrendered to the police.

Sims was charged with Felony Murder, Carjacking, Resisting and Obstructing a Police Officer and Felony Firearm. The defendant was arraigned yesterday at 2:30 p.m. before Magistrate Laura Echartea. His probable cause hearing is scheduled for October 14, 2015 at 8:30 a.m. and the preliminary examination is scheduled for October 21, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge Lydia Nance-Adams.
