Detroit Man Charged in Two Fatal Shootings
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Lemonte Richawn Jackson, 25, of Detroit, in connection with the December 16, 2022 fatal shooting of Rodney Carter, 30, and the December 22, 2022 fatal shooting of Patrick Jones, 26, both of Detroit.
December 16, 2022 - 19940 Conant St., Detroit, MI
At approximately 2:37 a.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a night club in the 19940 block of Conant Street for a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located the victim laying on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Medics arrived on scene and transported the victim to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
It is alleged that the defendant produced and fired a handgun multiple times, fatally wounding Mr. Carter, before fleeing the scene. More specific details about the case will come out in court at the preliminary examination.
Defendant Jackson has been charged with one count of First-Degree Murder, one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and two counts of Felony Firearm. *
December 22, 2022 - 12308 Banneker Ct., Detroit, MI
At approximately 10:48 a.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 12300 block of Banneker Court for a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located the victim in the upstairs bedroom of the home suffering from a gunshot wound to the right arm and right armpit. Medics arrived on scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
It is alleged that a verbal altercation between the defendant and the victim escalated, and Defendant Jackson produced and fired a handgun, fatally wounding Mr. Jones, before fleeing the scene. More specific details about the case will come out in court at the preliminary examination.
Defendant Jackson has been charged with one count of First-Degree Murder, one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and two counts of Felony Firearm. *
He was arraigned and remanded to jail on January 17, 2023 in 36th District Court. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for January 31, 2023, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for February 7, 2023, at 1:45 p.m., before Judge Kenneth King.
