Detroit Man Charged in Wyoming Avenue Robbery and Fatal Shooting
On May 6, 2022, at approximately 5:46 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a gas station in the 8820 block of Wyoming Avenue in Detroit for a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located the victim lying on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Medics arrived on scene and transported the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
It is alleged that Defendant Walker robbed the victim and during the robbery, fired a handgun, fatally wounding Mr. Gowens before fleeing the scene. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of the defendant later the same day.
Marquise Javier Walker has been charged with one count of Premeditated First-Degree Murder, one count of Felony Murder, one count of Armed Robbery, one count of Carrying a Concealed Weapon, and three counts of Felony Firearm. *
He was arraigned and remanded to jail this afternoon in 36th District Court. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for May 24, 2022, and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for May 31, 2022, before Judge Kenneth King.
