Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Armonie Cherece Mack, 25, (DOB: 10/15/1996), of Detroit, in connection with the non-fatal shooting of her two-year-old son.

On December 15, 2021, at approximately 8:30 p.m., in the 16060 block of Liberal Street in Detroit, it is alleged that the toddler picked up an unsecured handgun in the home and shot himself in his left leg. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

"I simply do not understand why this is tough or controversial," said Prosecutor Worthy. "I have been beating this drum that children should not have access to guns for over five years now. I have talked about this incessantly. Gun owners have a duty to safely store their weapons when children are around. They need to make sure that there is absolutely no way that children can get access. Full stop."

Armonie Cherece Mack has been charged with one count of Second-Degree Child Abuse. * She was arraigned today in 36th District Court and received a $15,000/10% bond. Her Probable Cause Conference Hearing is on December 29, 2021 and her Preliminary Examination is on January 5, 2022. Please request a photograph of the defendant from the Detroit Police Department.

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
