Detroit Parents Charged in Non-Fatal Shooting of Four-Year-Old Daughter
On July 27, 2021 at approximately 3:00 p.m., in the 1900 block of Chene Street in Detroit, it is alleged that the four-year-old girl picked up an unsecured handgun in the home and shot herself in her right hip. The child was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Jesse Briggs has been charged with one count of Second-Degree Child Abuse and one count of Felony Firearm. Shamira Houston has been charged with one count of Tampering with Evidence. * Both defendants were arraigned on July 30, 2021 in 36th District Court.
Defendant Briggs was given a $20,000 bond and ordered to have no contact with the victim. His Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for August 17, 2021 and his Preliminary Examination is scheduled for August 24, 2021 in 36th District Court before Judge Patricia Jefferson.
Defendant Houston was given a $10,000 bond. Her Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for August 12, 2021 and her Preliminary Examination is scheduled for August 19, 2021 also before Judge Patricia Jefferson. Please request a photograph of the defendants from the Detroit Police Department.
