Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Jaquetta Ann Coopwood, 31(DOB: 12/25/1985), of Detroit, in connection with the fatal stabbing of her mother, Pandora Hassan, 56, also of Detroit. On August 13, 2017 at 11:46 p.m., in a home in the 18900 block of Appoline, it is alleged that after a brief conversation, the defendant stabbed her mother in the chest. Ms. Hassan was taken to a local hospital by medics where she was pronounced dead.

Coopwood has been charged with Second Degree Murder*. The defendant was arraigned this afternoon before 36th District Court Magistrate Charles Anderson. The probable cause conference is scheduled for August 23, 2017 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for August 30, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Kenneth King in 36th District Court.

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
