Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Artshanel Cierra Surles, 22, (DOB: 03/28/1999), of Detroit, in connection with the non-fatal shooting of a 27-year-old woman, also of Detroit.

On July 4, 2021 at approximately 10:30 p.m., Defendant Surles was standing at a gas station in the 19000 block of Van Dyke Street in Detroit when she had a verbal altercation with the victim. After words were exchanged, it is alleged that the defendant discharged a handgun, non-fatally wounding the victim, before fleeing the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the identification and arrest of the defendant on the evening of July 19, 2021.

Artshantel Cierra Surles has been charged with one count of Assault with Intent to Murder, one count of Assault with Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm, one count of Discharge at a Building Causing Injury, one count of Carrying a Concealed Weapon, and three counts of Felony Firearm. *

She was arraigned today in 36th District Court and given a $200,000/10% bond. She was also ordered to have no contact with the complaining witness. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for July 29, 2021 and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for August 5, 2021 in 36th District Court before Judge Kenneth King.
