Detroit Woman Charged in Home Invasion
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Kayla Shawn L-Asi, 26, of Detroit, in connection with a home invasion in Detroit.
On January 2, 2025, at approximately 1:00 p.m., it is alleged that the defendant forced entry into a 49- year-old Detroit woman's home located in the 2900 block of Burlingame Street in Detroit. It is further alleged that the defendant vandalized the victim's home before fleeing the scene.
Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of the defendant later the same day. More complete facts and evidence will be placed on the record in court at the Preliminary Examination.
Kayla Shawn L-Asi has been charged with First-Degree Home Invasion and Conspiracy - Legal Act/Illegal Manner.*
She was arraigned on January 5, 2025, in 36th District Court and given a $50,000 cash/surety bond. A bond re-determination hearing is scheduled for January 7, 2025, at 9:00 a.m., before Judge William McConico. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for January 13, 2025, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for January 21, 2025, at 8:45 a.m., before Judge Marlena Taylor.
