Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Stephanie Marie Binder, 37, (DOB: 10/23/1984), in connection with the kidnapping of an 11-year-old boy, an eight-year-old girl, a seven-year-old girl, and a five-year-old boy, all of Detroit. The defendant and the children are not related.

On November 30, 2021, at approximately 7:30 a.m., Detroit police officers were in the area of Grand River Avenue and Evergreen Avenue in Detroit when they conducted a traffic stop on the defendant's vehicle for running a red light. When officers approached the passenger side of the vehicle, they observed the four children in the back seat. It is alleged that Defendant Binder was driving in a stolen vehicle when she kidnapped the children as they were walking to school.

Stephanie Marie Binder has been charged with four counts of Kidnapping - Child Enticement, four counts of Unlawful Imprisonment, one count of Unlawfully Driving Away of an Automobile, and one count of Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property - Motor Vehicle. *

She was arraigned this morning in 36th District Court and given a $5,000,000 cash/surety bond by Magistrate Joseph Boyer. She was also ordered to have no contact with the victims. If released on the bond, the defendant will be given a GPS tether and placed on house arrest.

The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for December 14, 2021 and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for December 21, 2021 in 36th District Court before Judge Kenneth King. Please request a photograph of the defendant from the Detroit Police Department.
