Eastpointe Man Charged in Fatal Shooting of Detroit Man
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Tasean Lamarean Johnson, 19, of Eastpointe, in connection with the fatal shooting of William Shelton, 18, of Detroit.
On May 17, 2024, at approximately 12:13 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to the area of Whittier Street and Roxbury Street for a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Medics arrived on the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
It is alleged that while the victim was walking eastbound on Whittier Street, Defendant Johnson produced and fired a handgun multiple times from a moving vehicle, fatally wounding Mr. Shelton, before fleeing the scene. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of the defendant on May 20, 2024.
Tasean Lamarean Johnson has been charged with Second-Degree Murder, Discharge from a Moving Vehicle Causing Death, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Lying to a Peace Officer, and two counts of Felony Firearm.*
He was arraigned on May 23, 2024, in 36th District Court before Magistrate Malaika Ramsey-Heath and given a $750,000 cash/surety bond with a GPS tether and house arrest. A bond redetermination hearing is scheduled for May 28, 2024, at 9:00 a.m., before Judge William McConico. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for May 30, 2024, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for June 4, 2024, at 1:45 p.m., before Judge Kenneth King.
