Father Charged in Fatal Shooting Death of Nine-Year-Old Detroit Boy
Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Christopher Duran Head, 45 (DOB: 8/15/70), of Detroit, in connection with the fatal shooting death of his son Daylen Makhai Head. On November 9, 2015 at approximately 12:36 p.m., in a home located in the 6600 block of Barton in Detroit, the boy was discovered in a bedroom fatally shot in the head. It is alleged that the father possessed a loaded shotgun that was not secured and was accessible to the child. At this time the case remains under investigation and no further details will be released.
The defendant has been charged with the following crimes:
- Homicide - Murder - Second Degree;
- Homicide - Manslaughter - Involuntary;
- Child Abuse - Second Degree;
- Weapons - Firearms - Short-Barreled Shotgun;
- Weapons - Firearms - Possession by Felon and
- Weapons - Felony Firearm
Head was arraigned and remanded to jail this morning by Magistrate Echartea in 36th District Court. The probable cause hearing is scheduled for November 19, 2015 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for November 25, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge Shannon Holmes.
