Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Jerry Mitchell Hughes, 25, (DOB: 06/12/1996), of Hamtramck, in connection with the fatal shooting of Lamarr Miller, 23, of Detroit, and the non-fatal shooting of a 17-year-old Westland girl. The defendant and Mr. Miller were acquainted.

On April 15, 2022, at approximately 9:40 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 12350 block of Dickerson Street in Detroit for a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located Mr. Miller, with multiple gunshot wounds, laying on top of the 17-year-old victim, who had a gunshot wound to her leg. Medics arrived on scene and pronounced Mr. Miller deceased. The 17-year-old victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

It is alleged that Defendant Hughes entered the residence and produced and fired a handgun, fatally wounding Mr. Miller and non-fatally wounding the 17-year-old victim, before fleeing the scene. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of the defendant on April 18, 2022.

Jerry Mitchell Hughes has been charged with one count of First-Degree Murder, one count of Assault with Intent to Murder, one count of Felon in Possession, and three counts of Felony Firearm. *

He was arraigned and remanded to jail this afternoon in 36th District Court.
