Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Michael Cortez Norris, 26, (DOB: 12/19/1995), of Highland Park, in connection with the fatal shooting of his girlfriend Naomi Skinner, 25, also of Highland Park.

On February 12, 2022, at approximately 1:33 a.m., Highland Park police officers were dispatched to an apartment building in the 14200 block of 2nd Avenue in Highland Park in response to a 911 call. Upon their arrival, officers located the victim in the fourth-floor hallway of the building deceased with a gunshot wound to the neck.

It is alleged that a physical altercation inside the apartment unit between Defendant Norris and the victim escalated, and a handgun was fired, fatally wounding the victim. It is further alleged that the defendant moved the victim into the hallway of the apartment building before fleeing the scene.

Michael Cortez Norris has been charged with Second Degree Murder, Tampering with Evidence and Felony Firearm. * He was arraigned late yesterday in 30th District Court and given a $500,000 cash bond with a GPS tether. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for February 22, 2022, in 30th District Court at 9:00 a.m., before Judge Brigette Officer Holley.
