Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged a juvenile male, age 16 (DOB:09/20/2004), in connection with the non-fatal shooting of a 13-year-old male, both of Inkster. The juvenile respondent is not being charged as an adult defendant; he has been adult designated. This means that upon conviction an adult designation allows the judge to have the option of sentencing the respondent as a juvenile, or as an adult, or to fashion a blended juvenile sentence with the option of imposing an adult sentence if the juvenile is not rehabilitated.

On June 18, 2021 at approximately 9:23 p.m., Victim1 was in the front yard of a home in the 250 block of Brentwood, standing next to a parked SUV. The vehicle was occupied by three males ages 13, 16, and 17, of Inkster, and another 15-year-old male, of Westland. It is alleged that a subcompact SUV occupied by the juvenile respondent drove west on Mt. Vernon passing through the intersection with Brentwood when gunshots were heard and observed by the victims and witnesses. It is alleged that the juvenile respondent fired a handgun that shot Victim 1, causing a non-fatal wound to the chest, and fired at the four other victims in the car and drove away. Additional bullets struck the SUV parked on Brentwood but did not hit the other four victims.

The juvenile respondent has been charged with five counts of Assault with Intent to Murder, one count of Discharging a Firearm at a Motor Vehicle, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, and five counts of Felony Firearm. His Preliminary Hearing was held on June 26, 2021 and the juvenile respondent was given a $50,000 cash bond. His Preliminary Examination will be held on July 19, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at the Lincoln Hall of Justice.

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
