Juvenile Charged in Dearborn Heights Non-Fatal Shooting
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged a 14-year-old juvenile male of Dearborn Heights, in connection with the non-fatal shooting of 16-year-old Detroit male victim. He has been charged as a juvenile.
On September 18, 2023, at approximately 3:28 p.m., Dearborn Heights police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 8430 block of Grayfield Street for a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located the victim inside the home with a gunshot wound to his head. Medics arrived on the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment.
It is alleged that the juvenile was handling the weapon when it discharged, wounding the victim in the forehead. After the shooting the juvenile fled from the scene. He turned himself in to the Oak Park Police Department later the same day.
The juvenile respondent has been charged with Careless Discharge Causing Injury or Death. *
His preliminary hearing was held this afternoon before Referee Leslie Graves and the juvenile received a $10,000 personal bond. His next court date is a Pretrial scheduled for October 12, 2023, at 9:30 a.m., before Judge Michael McClory in the Lincoln Hall of Justice.
