Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged a 13-year-old juvenile male, (DOB: 02/20/2009), of Detroit, in connection with the fatal shooting of a 12-year-old boy, also of Detroit. The victim was the cousin of the juvenile respondent.

On July 19, 2022, at approximately 9:05 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 11350 block of Bramell Street in Detroit for a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located the victim in the basement of the home with a gunshot wound to the chest. Medics arrived on scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

It is alleged that the juvenile was playing with a firearm when it discharged, striking the victim in the chest, fatally wounding him.

The juvenile respondent has been charged with one count of Manslaughter. *

The Preliminary Hearing was held today at 1:30 p.m., before Referee Leslie Graves at the Lincoln Hall of Justice and the juvenile was given a $10,000/10% bond. The Pre-Trial is scheduled for August 16, 2022, at 9:30 a.m., before Judge Jerome Cavanagh.

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
