Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged a 13-year-old male, of Detroit, as a juvenile respondent in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 14-year-old male, of Southfield.

On July 25, 2023, at approximately 9:16 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to the area of Burnett Street and Burgess Avenue for a reported stabbing. Upon their arrival, officers located the victim lying in the street with a stab wound to the neck. Medics arrived on the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

It is alleged that a physical altercation between the juvenile and the victim escalated, and the juvenile produced a weapon and stabbed the victim, fatally injuring him.

The juvenile respondent has been charged with Second-Degree Murder. *

A Preliminary Hearing was held this afternoon at the Lincoln Hall of Justice before Referee Leslie Graves. The juvenile respondent was remanded. A Pre-Trial is scheduled for August 28, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., before Judge Michael McClory.

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
