Steven Utash Beating Case - Today Defendants Bruce Wimbush, Jr. Wonzey Saffold, James Davis and Latrez Cummings were arraigned on the information before Judge James Callahan. The final conference date for all defendants is scheduled for June 2, 2014. The trial date Wimbush and Davis will be held on August 25, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. The trial date for Saffold and Cummings will be held on August 18, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. The juvenile respondent will have his trial in the Lincoln Hall of Justice before Judge Jerome Cavanagh on June 23, 2014 at 9:00 a.m.

Man Charged in Fatal Shooting on Clayburn Street in Detroit

Today Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Vernal Johnson, 20 (10/30/93) of Detroit, in connection with the fatal shooting of Clayton Malone, 19, of Detroit. It is alleged that on April 27, 2014, at approximately 12:15 a.m., Detroit police officers were called to a home in the 7730 block of Clayburn and observed Malone on the floor. A Wayne County Medical Examiner pronounced him dead at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds. It is alleged that Johnson shot Malone after a confrontation in the home. Johnson left the scene of the shooting and later surrendered himself to the police.

Johnson has been charged with Second Degree Murder and Felony Firearm. We have been informed by the officer in charge of the case that the arraignment is expected to take place at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow in 36th District Court. Please confirm this with the Detroit Police Department and the court.

Taylor Father Charged with Abuse of Infant Son

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Nicholas Alan Spirdione, 23 (4/12/91) of Taylor, in connection with the child abuse of his six-month-old son. On April 26, 2014 at approximately 4:48 p.m., the Taylor Police responded to a 911 call requesting that an ambulance be sent to the Spirdione's home in the 6600 block of Pine Street for medical assistance for his infant son. The mother of the child is the girlfriend of Spirdione. The child received emergency surgery for injuries sustained to his head and remains in the hospital.

Spirdione has been charged with the following crimes: one count of Torture, a felony that carries up to life in prison; two counts of First Degree Child Abuse, a felony that carries up to life in prison, Assault With Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm, a felony that carries a penalty of 10 years and Domestic Violence, a 93-day misdemeanor.

The defendant was arraigned today in 23rd District Court in Taylor before Judge Geno Salomone. He was given a $1.5 million dollar cash bond and a preliminary examination date of May 5, 2014 at 9:00 a.m.

Napoleon Turner - Defendant alleged to have beaten and run over a man at a Valero Gas Station in Detroit. His preliminary examination has been adjourned until May 16, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. before Judge Michael Wagner. The case was adjourned because the defendant retained new counsel.

Romulus Baby Death Case - The police are continuing to investigate this case.

Theodore Wafer - Defendant charged in the fatal shooting of Renisha McBride in Dearborn Heights. Today Judge Dana Hathaway scheduled a final conference date of June 20, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. and a jury trial date of July 21, 2014 at 9:00 a.m.

Fredrick K. Young and Felando D. Hunter Charged in 2012 Homicides of Westland Teens

The conclusion of an extensive investigation conducted by the Detroit Police Department in conjunction with the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office has resulted in homicide charges for Fredrick K. Young, 25 (10/8/88) of Detroit and Felando D. Hunter, 23 (8/16/90), of Jackson, Michigan. The two defendants have been charged today with the July 2012 homicides of Jacob Kudla, 18 and Jourdan Bobbish, 18, both of Westland. On July 27, 2012 at approximately 9:00 a.m., Detroit police officers responded to a run to a field located at Lyford and French Road in Detroit. The officers observed the remains of two dead bodies that had suffered gunshot wounds and were later identified as Kudla and Bobbish. It is alleged that Young and Hunter robbed, tortured, imprisoned and killed both victims. More specific details of the case will be presented in court at the preliminary examination.

Young and Hunter have each been charged with: First Degree Premeditated Murder, First Degree Felony Murder, Torture, Armed Robbery, Unlawful Imprisonment and Felony Firearm. Fredrick Young has been charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

Young was arraigned and remanded this afternoon in 36th District Court and will have his preliminary examination on May 13, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. before Judge Michael Wagner. On Thursday, May 1, 2014, Hunter is expected to be arraigned by video in 36th District Court at 8:30 a.m.

Ex-Boyfriend Charged in Huron Township Police Standoff

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Ronald Elgean Adams Ford, 42 (6/12/71) of Gibraltar, in connection with a police standoff that occurred in Huron Township. On April 28, 2014 at approximately 3:30 p.m., it is alleged that police were called to the apartment of a 27-year-old Huron Township woman who was being held at knife point by the defendant in her apartment located in the 28600 block of Parkview. The defendant was the former boyfriend of the victim. The Huron Township Police and Flat Rock Police called the Downriver SWAT Team and the Crisis Negotiation Team to the scene. It is alleged that he held the woman against her will for several hours before the Crisis Negotiation Team able to successfully negotiate his surrender. The defendant has been charged with Home Invasion - First Degree, Unlawful Imprisonment, Assault by Strangulation, Felonious Assault and Domestic Violence. It is expected that he will be arraigned in 34th District Court on May 1, 2014 in the morning. Please confirm the time of the arraignment with the court.

Fredrick K. Young and Felando D. Hunter - Young was arraigned and remanded yesterday afternoon in 36th District Court. Today Hunter was arraigned by video in 36th District Court. Both defendants will have their preliminary examinations on May 13, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. before Judge Michael Wagner.

Detroit Man Charged in Fatal Crash on the Lodge Freeway and Rosa Parks Blvd. in Detroit

Michael Anthony Miller, 22 (12/22/91) of Detroit, has been charged in connection with the fatal car crash that caused the deaths of Brian Kelly, 68, Daniel Kelly, 31, and Keeland Johns, 19, all of Grand Rapids, Michigan. On August 18, 2013, the Defendant was alleged to have been driving on the northbound Lodge Freeway near Rosa Parks Boulevard at approximately 12:27 a.m.at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his car and crashed into the victims' car. The three victims were transported to a local hospital and were pronounced dead from wounds sustained in the crash.

Miller has been charged with three counts of Reckless Driving Causing Death, a felony which carries a 15-year maximum penalty. The defendant is expected to be arraigned this afternoon in 36th District Court at 2:30 p.m. Please confirm the time of the arraignment with the court.

Detroit Man Charged in Home Invasion on Heyden Street

Homeowner shoots and wounds intruder during the break in.

James Roundtree, 24 (8/5/87), of Detroit, has been charged by Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy in connection with a home invasion where he was shot by the woman who owned the home. On April 29, 2014 at approximately 12:30 a.m., the police were called to a home in the 12200 block of Heyden on a police run to a home invasion. When they arrived, it is alleged that Roundtree was running from the house. Once he was apprehended, the officers observed that he had a gunshot wound on his arm. The 50-year-old woman homeowner said that she heard someone breaking into her home and called the police. It is alleged that the defendant broke a window and was attempting to enter the house when the woman warned him not to enter several times. When he wouldn't retreat, she fired once striking him in the arm.

Roundtree is charged with: Home Invasion First Degree (20 years), Lying to an Officer during Violent Crime Investigation (two years), and Resisting and Obstructing a Police Officer (two years). He is expected to be arraigned tomorrow in 36th District court a 10:30 a.m. Please confirm this time with the court.

Ronnie Alonzo Anderson-Williams, Jamare Rucker - Charged with the homicide of a CVS guard and the carjacking of three female victims. The defendants will be in court tomorrow for a pre-trial conference before Judge Vera Massey Jones at 2:30 p.m. Defendant Jeremy Jackson has been referred for competency and is expected back in court on May 27, 2014.
