Woman Charged in Carjacking of Senior Woman

Valerie Johnson, 54 (DOB 2/7/60), of Lansing, has been charged in connection with the carjacking of an 88-year-old Detroit woman. On February 6, 2015 at approximately 4:00 p.m., it is alleged that Johnson approached the elderly woman whose car was stuck in the snow in the 12100 block of St. Mary Street in Detroit. Johnson offered to help get the car out of the snow and took the driver's seat and the victim sat in the passenger's seat. The defendant drove the car to a store with the victim in the passenger seat. Later, the defendant directed the elderly woman to get back behind the wheel and drive back to her house. Johnson tied the woman up, took her money, and fled the scene in her car. Once Johnson had left the house, the woman called 911. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of the defendant.

Johnson has been charged with Carjacking, Home Invasion, Unlawful Imprisonment, Unlawful Driving Away of an Automobile, Interfering with Crime Reporting and Assault and Battery. She is expected to be arraigned today at 10:30 in 36th District Court. Please confirm the arraignment time with the court.

UPDATE: The defendant was arraigned today and received a $500,000 bond and a Probable Cause Hearing date of February 17, 2015 at 8:30 a.m. and a Preliminary Examination date of February 23, 2015 at 9:00 a.m., both before Judge Shannon Holmes.

Detroit Man Charged in Murder of Highland Park Officer Roderick Jones

Walter Treon Jennings, 35 (DOB 2/25/79), of Detroit, has been charged with First Degree Murder, Felon in Possession and Felony Firearm Second Degree in connection with the homicide of Highland Park police officer Roderick Jones, 33. On February 7, 2015, at approximately 1:02 a.m. in front of a location in the 24500 block of Eight Mile Road, it is alleged that the defendant fatally shot the officer multiple times. Detroit police were dispatched to the location and the victim was conveyed to a local hospital where he died from his wounds. Officer Jones was working as a security guard at the Opyum Lounge and told the defendant he would have to leave prior to the shooting.

Jennings is expected to be arraigned today at 10:30 in 36th District Court. Please confirm the arraignment time with the court.

Mother Charged in Death of Infant Son

Priyanka Chakraborty, 26 (DOB 9/2/88), of Detroit, has been charged in connection with the death of her two-year-old that occurred on February 6, 2015 at 8:20 p.m. at her home located in the 5000 block of Sobieski Street. The child died of asphyxia. It is alleged that the defendant choked her son to death.

The defendant has been charged with First Degree Murder, Felony Murder, and one count of Child Abuse 1st Degree. Chakraborty is expected to be arraigned today in 36th District Court. We have not been advised of a time for the arraignment; please confirm at time with the court.

UPDATE: According to the court computer entry, Chakraborty was scheduled to be arraigned yesterday in 36th District Court. She received a Probable Cause Hearing date of February 18, 2015 at 8:30 a.m. and the Preliminary Examination date of February 24, 2015, before Judge Ronald Giles.

Andrew Jackson - Defendant charged in connection with carjacking a Detroit woman with her grandchildren at gun point. We have just been informed that Jackson will be in court this morning for a Probable Cause Hearing before Judge Michael Wagner this morning. His preliminary examination is scheduled for February 17, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. before Judge Wagner.

UPDATE: We have been informed that Jackson was not writted out this morning from MDOC. The Probable Cause Hearing before Judge Michael Wagner will be adjourned. When a new date is placed on the record, a release will be sent out.

Evan Reed - Former Tiger baseball player accused of sexually assaulting a woman at Motor City Casino. On November 21, 2014, Judge Kenneth King dismissed the two counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct Third Degree, which carries a 15 years maximum penalty charged against the defendant. On November 25, 2014, Wayne County Circuit Court Criminal Division Judge Michael Callahan reversed and remanded the case back to 36th District Court for a bind over order. Today Reed has been bound over by Judge Shannon Walker and his arraignment in Wayne County Circuit Court Criminal Division is on Friday, March 13, 2015 at 9:00 a.m.

Andrew Jackson - Defendant charged in connection with carjacking a Detroit woman with her grandchildren, at gun point. Because Jackson was not writted out of MDOC today, his preliminary examination is scheduled for March 3, 2015 at 8:30 a.m. before Judge Michael Wagner.

Andrew Jackson - We have received a warrant request from the Michigan State Police relating to the arrest and apprehension of Jackson on January 12, 2015 by A.C.T.I.O.N. by officers after an allegation that he was involved in a carjacking case. In all police involved incidents, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office conducts an independent investigation regarding the allegations prior to reviewing the warrant to determine whether charge will issue. That procedure will be followed in this case.

In Jackson's carjacking case, the preliminary examination is scheduled for March 3, 2015 at 8:30 a.m. before Judge Michael Wagner.
