Detroit Man Charged Tax Preparation Office Shooting

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Xzavier* Tyrone Mazyck, 19 (DOB 6/15/94) of Detroit, in connection with the February 28, 2014 shooting that occurred at 3:10 p.m. at a local tax preparation office located in the 7400 block of Gratiot. It is alleged that the defendant got into an argument with a female tax preparer because a female accompanying Mazyck was not able to receive a cash income tax refund. The tax preparer was beaten by the defendant. A security guard working at the business attempted to remove Mazyck and he pulled out a handgun and shot the guard and two other women who were inside the building.

Mazyck is charged with nine counts of assault with intent to murder, nine counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm, carrying a concealed weapon, nine counts of felonious assault, discharge of a firearm in an occupied building and felony firearm.

Mazyck was arraigned today and received a $250,000 cash/surety bond. His preliminary examination is scheduled for March 14, 2014 in 36th District Court. Please confirm the examination time with the court.

Suspended Detroit Officer Charged in Alcohol Related Car Crash

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged suspended Detroit Police officer Dana Bond, 41 (DOB 9/26/72) of Detroit, in connection with a car crash that occurred on Memorial and Plymouth in Detroit on March 2, 2014 at approximately 1:05 p.m.* It is alleged that Bond was driving while intoxicated when she crashed her car into and other car and injuring a 19-year-old male driver and his 16-year-old female passenger. After striking the car Bond attempted to flee the scene, ran into a snow bank and was arrested. The injured victims were transported to a local hospital and were listed in stable condition.

Bond is charged with: High Blood Alcohol Content (180 day Misdemeanor) , Failure to Stop at the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident ( 1 year Misdemeanor)and Failure to Stop at the Scene of an Accident with Property Damage (90 Day Misdemeanor).

We have recently received information that the defendant was arraigned this morning. She received a 10,000/10% bond. We will update you when we have confirmed the pre-trial date.

*Bond was previously charged with Retail Fraud Third Degree (93 day Misdemeanor) on August 19, 2013 and on August 28, 2013. She is alleged to have stolen wine and some food items for a store located in the 1100 Block of Warren in the August 19 incident. In the August 28 incident she is alleged to have stolen a bottle of wine from a store located in the 4500 block of Trumbull. She is scheduled to have jury trials on both cases on April 15, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. before Judge Ronald Giles In 36th District Court.

Detroit Man Charged in Arson of Dwellings

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Gary Patrick Lewis, 55 (DOB 12/28/59), of Detroit in connection with five arson fires. On March 2, 2014 between 11:15 a.m. and 11:52 a.m., the Detroit Fire and Arson Investigation responded to a series of fires allegedly set by Lewis. The fires were set in the following vacant dwellings: a home in the 20400 block of Hawthorne; a home in the 20500 block of Hull; a home in the 20500 block of Russell and a home in the 20500 block of Greeley. The fire set in the home on Hawthorne spread to an occupied dwelling next door; the fire in the home on Hull also spread to an occupied home next door. There were a total of six houses that burned.

Lewis has been charged with two counts of Second Degree Arson, and four counts of Third Degree Arson. He was arraigned today and received a $500,000 cash/surety bond. His preliminary examination will be held before Judge Joseph Baltimore on March 17, 2014 at 9:00 a.m.

Detroit Police Officer Charged in Domestic Violence Assault

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Detroit Police Officer Johnny Ray Bridges, 47 (DOB 8/21/67), in connection with the assault of a 31- year-old female that occurred at a home located in Detroit. On March 3, 2014 at approximately 1:45 a.m., Bridges was off-duty when he and the victim consumed alcohol and there was an argument. At some point during the argument, Bridges fired a handgun into the air. Bridges assaulted the victim by punching and kicking her face and body. The victim was clothed in only a t-shirt when she managed to escape from the location by breaking out a front window. She ran to a nearby restaurant where the employees immediately assisted her by providing clothing and calling 911. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is in stable condition.

After an investigation by the Detroit Police, Bridges was arrested on the same day. He has been charged with: Unlawful Imprisonment, Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm, Domestic Violence and Reckless Discharge of a Firearm. He was arraigned today and received a $5000/10% bond. He was ordered to have no contact with the victim and not to possess or purchase firearms. His preliminary examination is on March 13, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. before Judge Ruth Carter. Please contact the Detroit Police for a photograph of the defendant.

Homicide of CVS Security Guard - We have received a warrant request from the Detroit Police Department in connection with the homicide of a security guard at a CVS store in Detroit. The warrant request must be reviewed and a charging decision must be made. When that process is completed, a press release will be sent out.

On Duty Police Officer Charged In Sexual Assault

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Deon Nunlee, (DOB 11/28/ 73) in connection with a sexual assault of a 31- year- woman that occurred when he was dispatched on a domestic violence run. It is alleged that Officer Nunlee and his partner received a domestic disturbance call to a home located in the 16000 block of Asbury on October 30, 2013, at approximately 3:00 p.m. in the morning. When Nunlee and his partner arrived at the scene, the woman alleged that she had been assaulted by her boyfriend. Nunlee took the woman upstairs and his partner remained with the male downstairs. It is alleged that when Nunlee was in an upstairs bedroom with the woman he sexually assaulted her. While they were alone upstair, Nunlee indicated he would be coming back to the house later at 7:00 a.m. When officer left the house, the woman reported the crime to two friends and the next day, reported it to the police.

The defendant is charged with three counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct Second Degree, one count of Assault w/Intent to Penetrate and one count of Misconduct in Office. This morning he was arraigned in 36th District Court and received a bond of $50,000/10%. Romulus Police Corruption Case - Today the jury returned verdicts of guilty as charged in the cases against Defendants Larry Droege and Jeremy Channells. Droege was found guilty of Misconduct in Office and Neglect of Duty. Channells was found guilty of two counts of Misconduct in Office and Neglect of duty. The sentence date is March 31, 2014 at 9 a.m. before Judge Michael Hathaway.
