Detroit Man Charged with Shooting at Detroit Police Officers

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has authorized charges in the case where Detroit Police officers were targets of multiple gunshots. Javontae Deangelo Walker, 20 (DOB: 08/15/96), of Detroit, is alleged to have fired multiple gunshots in the direction of two Detroit Police officers. On December 29, 2016 at approximately 6:20 p.m., two Detroit Police officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop of an SUV by turning on the emergency lights of their vehicle. The SUV accelerated and shots were fired from the SUV in the direction of the officers. The SUV stopped in the 14000 block of Hampshire and the driver got out of the car. It is alleged that the defendant pointed a gun at the officers, who then fired. Walker then fled on foot to the 14000 block of Camden where he hid in a house and later surrendered. Walker was taken to the hospital for treatment for multiple gunshot wounds.

Walker has been charged with the following crimes: two counts of Assault with Intent to Commit Murder, one count of Home Invasion First Degree, one count of Fleeing and Eluding Police, one count of Unlawful Driving Away-Automobile, five counts of Resisting and Obstructing a Police Officer and ten counts of Felony Firearm*.

Walker was arraigned today. The probable cause conference has been scheduled for January 10, 2017 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for January 17, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. in 36th District Court. Both hearings are before Judge Kenneth King. The defendant received a $500,000 cash/surety bond.

Detroit Man Charged in Highland Park Homicide

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Durico Eugene Moses, 46, (DOB: 05/03/1970,) of Detroit, in connection with the fatal beating of a woman in Highland Park. It is alleged that on December 30, 2016, Moses and the decedent, with whom he had a prior relationship, met to shop at a store. An argument ensued. Moses was observed to have blood on his body. The body of the decedent was found in a parking garage in Highland Park days later.

Moses has been charged with one count of Open Murder*. He was arraigned this afternoon in 30th District Court in Highland Park. The probable cause conference is scheduled for January 17, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. before Judge Briget Officer-Hill in 30th District Court.
