Demetrius Armour - Armour was found guilty of First Degree Murder today in connection with the murder of Tyrell Lane outside Burlington Coat Factory at Eastland Mall. He will be sentenced on February 28, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. before Judge Kevin Cox.

Belleville Man Charged in Homicide of Ypsilanti Man

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Arndola Charles Lewis, 44 (DOB: 9/19/72), of Belleville, in connection with the homicide of Samer Taha Abukaff, 37, of Ypsilanti. On January 29, 2017 at 5:36 p.m., it is alleged that the Van Buren Township Police were called to an apartment in the 48000 block of Denton in Belleville. When they arrived they observed a lifeless body of Mr. Abukaff inside the apartment. It is alleged that the defendant and the victim had an argument and a physical altercation. It is further alleged that, as the victim was leaving the apartment, the defendant walked behind Abukaff and fatally shot him in the head. The defendant was arrested at the scene by the police.

Lewis has been charged with First Degree Premeditated Murder, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Felony Firearm - Second Offense.* The defendant was arraigned today in 34th District Court. The probable cause conference is scheduled for February 15, 2017 at 9:05 a.m.; the preliminary exam is scheduled for February 22, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Brian Oakley in 34th District Court. The defendant received a $500,000 cash bond.

Mother Charged with Leaving Children Home Alone

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Sara Marie King, 25 (DOB: 7/16/91) of Detroit, with two Counts of Child Abuse Second Degree.* On January 28, 2017 at approximately 2:40 p.m., it is alleged that she left her two daughters, ages six-years-old and eight-months-old, alone in their home, located in the 1600 block of Tyler. The six-year-old went outside on the porch and yelled to neighbors for help. A neighbor took the girls to her house and called the police. When the police arrived at the girls’ home, they observed that there was no heat or lights and the home was in terrible condition. The girls were taken to a local hospital and are now residing with a relative.

The defendant was arraigned this morning in 36th District Court. The probable cause conference is scheduled for February 9, 2017 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for February 14, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Shannon Holmes in 36th District Court. The defendant received a $75,000/10% bond.
