Detroit Man Charged in Fatal Stabbing of Mother And Non-Fatal Stabbing of Two Men

Today Prosecutor Worthy has charged Aonrai Christopher Jerry, 26 (DOB: 11/15/1991), in connection with the fatal stabbing of his mother, Sabbione Agee, 43, both of Detroit. On January 7, 2018 at 6:00 p.m., it is alleged that Jerry was in the basement of their home in the 1200 block of Heyden when he fatally stabbed his mother. The defendant fled from the location in a car and had a collision at Conner and Gratiot. After the car crash, the defendant is alleged to have gone to a home in the 10000 block of Rosebury where he non-fatally stabbed a 42-year-old man and a 46-year-old man. The men were not acquainted with the defendant. Jerry fled from the Rosebury location on foot. Later on the same day, investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of the defendant outside a home in the 12000 block of Promenade.

Jerry has been charged with one count of First Degree Murder, two counts of Assault with Intent to Murder and one count of Unlawful Driving Away of an Automobile.* The probable cause conference has been scheduled for January 24, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. and a Pre-Trial has been scheduled for January 31, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Deborah Lewis Langston. No preliminary examination date is indicated.

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

Former Detroit Police Officer Edward Hicks, 28, has been charged in connection with the assault of Deonta Stewart, 31, of Detroit

On August 30, 2016 at approximately 10:00 p.m., Officer Hicks and his partner drove up on Stewart, who was walking in the area of the Martin Luther King Homes at Chene and Lafayette Streets in Detroit. It is alleged that Hicks yelled for Stewart to stop and he took off running. Hicks initiated a foot chase. During the chase, Stewart looked back and, realizing he was being pursued by the police, stopped running. It is alleged that Hicks punched Stewart in the face multiple times, causing significant facial injuries and placed him under arrest.

Stewart's transport to the Detroit Detention Center (DDC) was delayed. Before taking Stewart to DDC, it is also alleged that Hicks told Stewart to give a false statement to the intake officer about his arrest and injuries. Stewart was later released from DDC and sought medical treatment at a local hospital.

Defendant Hicks has been charged with Assault with Intent to Commit Great Bodily Harm, Aggravated Assault, Obstruction of Justice and Misconduct in Office*. Hicks was arraigned this afternoon before 36th District Court Magistrate Charles Anderson. The probable cause conference is scheduled for January 18, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for January 23, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. Both cases are before Judge Kenneth King in 36th District Court. Hicks received a $5,000 personal bond.

Ypsilanti Father and Girlfriend Charged In Kidnapping of His Son

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Steven Joseph Miracle, 22 (DOB: 10/13/1995), and Joelle Ida Jones, 21 (DOB: 12/01/1996), both of Ypsilanti, in connection with the kidnapping and unlawful imprisonment of Defendant Miracle's infant son.

On January 8, 2018, at approximately 7:00 a.m., Defendant Miracle's two-year-old infant son was in the care and custody of a family member at a location in the 80th block of Pine Street in River Rouge. It is alleged that while at the location, the defendant took the infant without authorization or permission. Miracle and Jones are alleged to have taken a vehicle that belonged to a member of the household to drive away from the home. It is alleged that the defendant refused to return the child, but eventually the child was returned to the defendant's step-mother.

Defendant Steven Joseph Miracle has been charged with Kidnapping, Unlawful Imprisonment, Child Enticement, Custodial Interference and Unlawful Driving Away of an Automobile.*

Defendant Joelle Ida Jones has been charged with Accessory After the Fact and Unlawful Driving Away of an Automobile.*

Both defendants are expected to be arraigned on the warrant in 34th District Court after 11:00 a.m. today.
