Flat Rock Man Charged in Double Murder Case

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Thomas Edward Lane, Jr., 57, (DOB: 09/18/1960), in connection with the homicides of Mark Allan Harris 56, and his wife Catherine Anne Markowski, all of Flat Rock, Michigan. Defendant Lane had been living in the home of his sister, Ms. Markowski, and his brother-in-law, Mr. Harris, for several months prior to their deaths.

On March 31, 2018 at 1:20 p.m., Flat Rock police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 24800 block of Chinook Court. Upon entry, the police observed the lifeless bodies of Mr. Harris and Ms. Markowski inside the home and pronounced them dead at the scene. It is alleged that Defendant Lane fatally shot both victims and fled the scene in their car. At 5:35 p.m. on the same day, the police observed the defendant driving the victims' car on Benson Street in Trenton. Michigan State Police placed him under arrest and confiscated a handgun from the car. Further facts and evidence in the case will be presented in court at the preliminary examination.

Defendant Lane is being charged with two counts of First Degree Premeditated Murder, one count of Fleeing and Eluding Second Degree, one count of Carrying a Concealed Weapon, one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and three counts of Felony Firearm Second Offense.*

Today, Defendant Lane was arraigned and remanded to jail in 33rd District Court in Woodhaven. His probable cause conference is on July 10, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.

Wayne County Sheriff Reserve Officer Charged in Fatal Car Crash

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Wayne County Sheriff reserve police officer Michael L. Davis, 58 (DOB: 08/05/1959), of Detroit, in connection with a fatal car crash that killed Daniel Starks, 30, of Detroit. On June 23, 2018 at 11:30 p.m., it is alleged that Defendant Davis was driving his truck at Grand River and Meyers when he struck Mr. Starks, while he was riding his motorcycle. Detroit police officers arrived at the crash scene and rendered medical assistance to the victim until he was transported to a local hospital. Upon arrival, the victim was pronounced dead from multiple injuries he sustained in the crash. The police observed the defendant with slurred speech and a flask in the front cup holder in his truck. The defendant is alleged to have been driving under the influence of alcohol, and in possession of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol. He was placed under arrest at the scene.

The defendant has been charged with Operating Under the Influence Causing Death (15 year felony), Reckless Driving Causing Death (15 year felony), Moving Violation Causing Death, a misdemeanor, and Weapons-Firearms-Possession Under the Influence, a misdemeanor.*

Davis was arraigned this afternoon before 36th District Court Magistrate Millicent Sherman. The probable cause conference is scheduled for July 3, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for July 10, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Kenneth King in 36th District Court. The defendant was remanded to jail.

Rami Ali Jaber - Defendant charged in the May 13, 2018 fatal shooting of Derek Roberts at a Citgo Gas Station on West McNichols. The preliminary examination time was changed by the court. It is scheduled for Thursday, June 28, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. before Judge Lydia Nance Adams.

Detroit Man Charged in Home Invasion, Sexual Assault and Robbery

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Christopher C. Hightower, 30 (DOB: 11/30/1987), of Detroit, in connection with the home invasion, sexual assault, and robbery of a 56-year-old Detroit woman. On April 27, 2018, at 4:00 a.m., in the 12000 block of Stringham Court in Detroit, it is alleged that Hightower broke into the victim's home through her bedroom window. While in her house, he gestured as if he was armed with a gun, and then sexually assaulted her. It is alleged that, after the sexual assault, Hightower took personal property from the victim and fled from the scene. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to that arrest of Hightower.

Hightower has been charged with two counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct First Degree, one count of HomeInvasion First Degree and one count of Armed Robbery.* He was arraigned at 10:30 this morning before 36th District Court Magistrate Laura Echartea. The probable cause conference is scheduled for July 10, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for July 16, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Deborah Lewis Langston in 36th District Court. The defendant received a $500,000 cash/surety bond.
