Detroit Man Charged in Death of His Mother

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Raymond Mealy, 36 (DOB: 2/14/1981), of Detroit in connection with the death of his mother. On March 24, 2017 at approximately 12:45 p.m. it is alleged that Mealy beat his 64-year-old mother to death at their home located in the 7700 block of Bramell in Detroit. A relative came over to the home and discovered the lifeless body of the victim and called the police. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and the defendant was arrested.

Raymond Mealy was arraigned this morning before Magistrate Laura Echartea. The probable cause conference is scheduled for April 6, 2017 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for April 13, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Lydia Nance Adams in 36th District Court.

Detroit Man Charged in Non-Fatal Shooting of His 14-Year-Old Son

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Kong P. Kue, 36 (DOB: 7/8/1980), of Detroit in connection with the non-fatal shooting of his 14-year-old son by his 10-year-old son. On March 20, 2017 at approximately 7:00 p.m. in a home in the 13700 block of Pfent in Detroit it is alleged that Kue’s 14- year-old son and his 10-year-old son found an unsecured loaded shotgun and a handgun in the defendant’s bedroom. The 10-year-old was playing with the weapon and pulled the trigger striking his brother in the abdomen. 911 was called and police and medics were called to the location and the 14-year-old was transported to a local hospital where he continues to receive treatment for his wound.

Prosecutor Worthy said, "I have said this before and will say it again and again, these tragedies are absolutely 100 percent preventable. We have to do better and protect our children.”

Kue has been charged with Child Abuse Second Degree, which carries a maximum ten year penalty and Felony Firearm, which carries a two year consecutive penalty. On March 28, 2017, Kue was arraigned before 36th District Court Magistrate Millicent Sherman. The probable cause conference was held today. The preliminary examination that was scheduled for April 10, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. was changed today to May 9, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. by Judge Lydia Nance Adams in 36th District Court. The defendant has posted the $25,000/10% bond.

Detroit Mother Charged in Non-Fatal Shooting of Her Son

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Shecolby Lemay Green, 29 (DOB: 02/02/1988), of Detroit, in connection with the non-fatal shooting of her nine-year-old son.

On March 25, 2017 at approximately 10:00 a.m., in the family home located in the 5500 block of the John C. Lodge Service Drive, it is alleged that the victim was in Green’s upstairs bedroom, found a hand gun in Green’s purse and shot himself in the right hand. Green called 911. EMS responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment. He is expected to recover from his wound.

Green has been charged with Child Abuse - Second Degree and Felony Firearm*. Green was arraigned this afternoon before Magistrate Bari Blake Wood. The probable cause conference is scheduled for April 10, 2017 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for April 17, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge William McConico in 36th District Court. The defendant received a $50,000/10% bond.
