Detroit Senior Charged in Whittaker Street Arson
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Henry Vanreyendam, 73 (DOB: 01/11/1946), of Detroit, in connection with the arson that occurred in a vacant dwelling on Whittaker Street in Detroit.
On October 3, 2019 at approximately 1:10 p.m., the Detroit Fire Department responded to an active fire in a vacant dwelling in the 8100 block of Whittaker Street, near Mullane Street, in Detroit. A partial collapse of the structure occurred during firefighting operations and five firefighters were injured. Detroit EMS arrived at the scene and transported the injured firefighters to a local hospital for treatment.
It is alleged that the defendant intentionally started the fire. More complete facts and evidence in the case will be presented at the preliminary examination.
Vanreyendam has been charged with five counts of First Degree Arson, one count of Second Degree Arson and one count of Arson - Preparation to Burn.* He was arraigned on Sunday in 34h District Court and was remanded to jail. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for October 17, 2019 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for October 24, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Ronald Giles in 36th District Court. Detroit Security Guard Charged in Two Non-Fatal Shootings
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Cedric Lynn Windom, 59, (DOB: 08/09/1960), of Detroit, in connection with the non-fatal shootings of a 44-year-old woman and 46-year-old man that occurred in the parking lot of a Detroit market. Both victims are Detroit residents.
On October 6, 2019, Windom was working as a security guard at a market in the 15600 block of Joy Road in Detroit. At approximately 6:05 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched on a call about a gunshot wound reported in the parking lot of the market. Upon arrival, the officers discovered two victims, one adult female and one adult male, suffering from gunshot wounds. Medics arrived and transported the victims to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.
It is alleged that the defendant had a verbal exchange with the female victim while inside the market. The victim left the store with her groceries. She spoke with her boyfriend and he arrived at the scene. After the discussion with the female victim inside the store, it is alleged that Windom followed both victims outside the store, pointed a firearm at the male victim and fired it, wounding him. It is further alleged that Windom then pointed the firearm at the female victim and fired it, wounding her. The defendant was arrested at the scene.
Windom has been charged with two counts of Assault With Intent to Murder, two counts of Assault With Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm, and four counts of Felony Firearm.* He was arraigned at 2:30 p.m. this afternoon before 36th District Court Magistrate Jeffrey Kleparek. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for October 17, 2019 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for October 24, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Kenyetta Stanford Jones in 36th District Court. Juvenile Charged in Death of Newborn Infant
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged a 16 (DOB: 02/19/2003) of Detroit, as a juvenile, in connection with the death of her newborn infant.
On February 21, 2019 at approximately 11:30 p.m., EMS was dispatched to an address in the 9100 block of Agnes in response to a call for assistance for the juvenile for an unknown medical condition. Medics transported her to a local hospital for treatment. It was later discovered that earlier in the day on February 21, 2019, the juvenile respondent gave birth to an infant in a toilet in the Agnes apartment. It is alleged that that she fatally stabbed the infant multiple times. After the stabbing, it is further alleged that she wrapped the infant in a towel, placed her in a purse and hid the body in a closet in her room. On February 22, 2019, Detroit Police officers were dispatched to the apartment and located the deceased infant in the closet.
The respondent has been charged as a juvenile with Second Degree Murder.* A pretrial hearing is scheduled for October 25, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. before Referee Sean Kerman at the Juvenile Detention Center.

Corey Gaston - Detroit defendant charged with First Degree Home Invasion, Criminal Sexual Conduct - First Degree , Criminal Sexual Conduct - Second Degree and Kidnapping.* While on bond, Gaston fled for over 11 years after failing to appear for a pretrial hearing on February 2, 2008. He was recently apprehended by the U.S. Marshal Service. It is alleged that Gaston sexually assaulted a 10 -year-old girl after kidnapping her from her bedroom.
Gaston arrived at the Wayne County Jail around 4:30 a.m. this morning. He was arraigned before Judge Prentis Edwards on behalf of Judge Qiana Lillard. Although the prosecution requested that he be remanded, Judge Edwards gave him $250,000 cash bond, a GPS tether and a Defendant Screening Unit referral. A docket conference was set for October 16, 2019 before Judge Lillard. Please request a photo from the Detroit Police Department.

Defendant Corey Gaston is Remanded to the Wayne County Jail

He was recently apprehended by the U.S. Marshal Service. It is alleged that Gaston sexually assaulted a 10-year-old girl after kidnapping her from her bedroom.
Gaston arrived at the Wayne County Jail around 4:30 a.m. yesterday morning. He was arraigned before Judge Prentis Edwards on behalf of Judge Qiana Lillard. A docket conference was set for October 16, 2019 before Judge Lillard. Today during the motion to re-consider the bond, Judge Edwards remanded the defendant to jail. Robert Spada , Chief of the Special Victim's Unit, represented the prosecution, and the defendant was represented by attorney Steve Sharg.
Assistant Prosecutor Maria Miller said: "Yesterday during the bond hearing, the prosecution informed the court that the defendant was facing allegations of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a then ten-year-old child. It was pointed out that Gaston was a serious flight risk. Specifically, the prosecution indicated that he had twice absconded on bond and was arrested as a fugitive in Mexico and was recently extradited back to Michigan. The prosecution requested that the defendant be remanded to jail because he had been a fugitive from justice for 11 years at the time of his arrest. However, yesterday Judge Edwards gave Gaston a $250,000 cash bond, and a GPS tether. We are very pleased that today Judge Edwards has re-considered his ruling and has now revoked the bond and remanded the defendant to jail."

Detroit Man Charged In Fatal Arson Fire on Brace Street
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Dmarco Latham, 24 (DOB: 05/17/1995), of Detroit, in connection with an arson fire that killed a 31-year-old woman and her two-year-old girl. On October 8, 2019 at 7:38 p.m., the Detroit Fire Department was called to fire at an apartment building located in the 9540 block of Brace Street in Detroit. A male tenant in the building smelled burning, observed clothing on fire on the burners of the stove and fire in the apartment. He alerted other tenants in the building in an effort to evacuate the building.
On the evening of October 8, 2019, it is alleged that Defendant Latham intentionally set the fire in the apartment due to ongoing issues he had with the mother of his children, who was a resident in the building. The mother and her children were not present in the building at the time of the fire. A 31-year-old woman and her two-year-old daughter who lived in an upper apartment were killed in the fire. They were both taken to a local hospital and pronounced deceased. Her eight-year-old boy survived, but sustained injures that were treated at a local hospital. A 30-year-old woman also injured in the fire and was treated at the scene by medics.
Latham has been charged with two counts of Felony Murder, three counts of First Degree Arson, and two counts of Arson - Preparation to Burn. He was arraigned this afternoon before 36th District Court Magistrate Bari Blake Wood. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for October 25, 2019 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for November 1, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge Ronald Giles in 36th District Court.
