Assistant Prosecutor Maria Miller said: "Yesterday during the bond hearing, the prosecution informed the court that the defendant was facing allegations of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a then ten-year-old child. It was pointed out that Gaston was a serious flight risk. Specifically, the prosecution indicated that he had twice absconded on bond and was arrested as a fugitive in Mexico and was recently extradited back to Michigan. The prosecution requested that the defendant be remanded to jail because he had been a fugitive from justice for 11 years at the time of his arrest.
