Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Danford Lee Wilson, 30, (DOB: 11/24/1989), an off-duty Wayne County Sheriff, in connection with the non-fatal shooting of a 22-year-old Inkster woman.

On December 15, 2019, at approximately 10:55 p.m., Romulus police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 35420 block of North Alexander Street in Romulus for a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located the defendant inside the residence with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest. Medics arrived on scene and transported the defendant to a local hospital for treatment.

It is alleged that the defendant, the 22-year-old victim, and a Romulus woman were in the North Alexander home engaged in sexual activity. At that time the defendant fired a handgun, striking the 22-year-old victim in the face, non-fatally wounding her. It is further alleged that after the victim was shot, she struggled with the defendant, and he lost control over his weapon. The victim fired the handgun in self-defense striking the defendant multiple times in the chest. The victim was privately transported to a local hospital for treatment of her facial wound.

A warrant request was presented to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office on March 12, 2020. The case was reviewed and charged on January 6, 2022. On January 13, 2022, the defendant was arrested by the Romulus Police Department.
