Pittsburgh Controller Chelsa Wagner's Enters No Contest Plea to Disturbing the Peace
Today a pre-trial conference for the remaining felony count of Resisting and Obstructing the Police was held before Judge Regina Thomas. Ms. Wagner pleaded no contest to one count of Disturbing the Peace (Disturbing Meetings), a 90-day misdemeanor under MCLA 750.170. She was sentenced today to six months non-reporting probation and must pay $600.00 in court costs and $53.00 to the Crime Victim's Fund. This is a plea under advisement which means that when Ms. Wagner completes the probation the court can dismiss the case. *
*Note: WCPO has recently been informed that Ms. Wagner has issued the following erroneous statement about the proceedings:
"The settlement agreement entered into between Wagner and the Wayne County Prosecutor's office was approved by Judge Regina Thomas and will result in charges against Wagner being fully dismissed. Wagner appeared at 9:00 a.m. today for a pretrial hearing scheduled by her attorney, Charles Longstreet, before Judge Regina Thomas. Judge Thomas ruled for the case to be fully dismissed, upon Wagner paying for court fees and costs, which she did immediately following the 9am hearing. With full dismissal, nothing appears on an individual's record."
Please be advised that the case has not been dismissed by the court. Ms. Wagner has a six- month period of non-reporting probation, where she must not have any new criminal cases and must pay court costs and fines. It is a plea under advisement and after six months the Judge can dismiss her case. The plea form in the case signed by Ms. Wagner and her attorney is attached.
The order entered by Judge Thomas today is attached and clearly indicates that the probationary term is for six months. No order of dismissal exists.
