Dearborn Heights Man Charged in Southfield Freeway at
West McNichols Non-Fatal Shooting

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Devonte Andre Burton, 28, (DOB: 04/26/1992) of Dearborn Heights in connection with the non-fatal shooting of a 31-year-old Detroit woman.

On July 11, 2020 at approximately 5:51 p.m., Michigan State Police troopers and Detroit Police officers responded to the area of the Southfield Freeway and West McNichols in response to reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, the officers located a 31-year-old Detroit woman suffering from an obvious gunshot wound. Medics arrived on the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Investigation by the Michigan State Police and Detroit Police led to the apprehension of the defendant. Further information will be place on the record in Court at the Preliminary Examination.

Burton has been charged with Assault with Intent to Murder, Assault with Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm, Discharged of a Firearm from a Moving Vehicle Causing Serious Impairment, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Carrying a Firearm with Unlawful Intent, and five counts of Felony Firearm.*

Burton was arraigned this afternoon in 36th District Court. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for July 24, 2020 and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for July 31, 2020. Both hearings are before Judge Ronald Giles in 36th District Court. The defendant received a $225,000 cash/surety bond. Please contact the Michigan State Police for a photograph of the defendant.
