Westland Man Charged in Murder of His Mother

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Justin Jay Paul, 22 (DOB:10/23/1995), of Westland, in connection with the killing of his mother, Jeannette Lee Paul, 50, also of Westland. On December 20, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at their home located in the 6100 block of North Walton, it is alleged that the defendant fatally stabbed his mother in the throat and fled the location. A family member called the police to the location. The police found the lifeless body of Mrs. Paul inside the home.

The defendant fled from the home and was later apprehended on the same day by the Livonia Police Department. During the apprehension of Paul, he was shot in the upper thigh by a Livonia Police Officer. The defendant was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Paul has been charged with First Degree Murder*. He was arraigned and remanded in18th District Court in Westland this morning. His probable cause conference is scheduled for January 4, 2018, and his preliminary examination is on January 11, 2018, both at 8:30 a.m.

*The charges are allegations unless or until the defendant is convicted.
