DPD Corporal Charged in Assault of Female DMC Patient
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Detroit Police Corporal Dewayne Jones, 47 (DOB 07/02/1971), in connection with the assault of a female hospital patient. On August 1, 2018 at approximately 7:10 a.m., Jones was on duty in full uniform when he arrived at Detroit Receiving Hospital, located in the 4200 block of St. Antoine and encountered a 29-year-old female at the front desk. It is alleged that she was spitting, shouting profanities at the staff, and bit a police officer on the forearm and thigh. It is alleged that when Jones attempted to restrain her, he punched her in the face and upper body.
Jones has been charged with Misconduct in Office, a felony with a five year maximum penalty and Assault and Battery, a 93 day misdemeanor.* He was arraigned on November 27, 2018 and received a bond of $5000. Today Jones had his Probable Cause Hearing and his Preliminary Examination has been scheduled for December 19, 2018 before Judge Cylenthia Miller at 10:00 a.m. in 36th District Court.
*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
