Detroit Man Charged in Jefferson Avenue Fatal Shooting

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Devin Rashad Green, 19, (DOB: 10/29/2000), of Detroit, in connection with the fatal shooting of Janet Lynn Kendle, 43, of Dearborn.

On September 3, 2020 at approximately 1:00 a.m., Detroit Police officers the area of Jefferson Avenue and St. Aubin responded to the sound of shots fired within close proximity of their vehicle. Upon arrival, the officers discovered the victim on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound. Medics arrived at the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment, but she succumbed to her wounds.

It is alleged that the victim and her husband were walking westbound on the north side of Jefferson Avenue when the defendant, who was a backseat passenger in a passing vehicle, pulled out a weapon and fired it out the car window, striking the victim. Investigation by the Detroit Police led to the apprehension of the defendant. Facts and evidence in this case will be placed on the record in court at the Preliminary Examination.

Green has been charged with Second Degree Murder, Careless Discharge of a Weapon Causing Death and Felony Firearm.* He was arraigned this morning before 36th District Court Magistrate Millicent Sherman. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for October 9, 2020 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for October 16, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge Kenyetta Stanford Jones in 36th District Court.
