Detroit Man Charged in Southfield Service Drive and West Davison
Fatal Shooting

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Jovan Geno Reed, 33 (DOB: 11/26/1986), in connection with the fatal shooting of David James Johnson, 54, of Detroit.

On March 2, 2020 at approximately 7:40 p.m., Detroit police were dispatched to the area of the Southfield Service Drive and West Davison in response to a person shot call. Upon arrival the officers discovered the victim with apparent gunshot wounds. Medics arrived at the location and pronounced the victim dead on the scene. Investigation by the Detroit Police led to the apprehension of the defendant. Further facts and evidence will be placed on the record in court at the Preliminary Examination.

Reed has been charged with First Degree Murder, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Felony Firearm.* He was arraigned on September 23, 2020 before 36th District Court Magistrate Jeffrey Kleparek, The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for October 7, 2020 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for October 14, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge Roberta Archer in 36th District Court. The defendant was remanded to jail.
