Detroit Woman Charged in Fatal Stabbing of Live-In Partner

Prosecutor Worthy has charged Akilah Charmaine Swift, 39 (DOB: 11/24/1979), of Detroit, in connection with the fatal stabbing of Wendel Duplessis, 62, of Detroit. The defendant and the victim, both of Detroit, were residing together at the time of the incident.

On November 10, 2019 at 10:19 a.m., in an apartment in the 4140 block of St. Antoine, Akilah Swift is alleged to have fatally stabbed the victim multiple times after an argument. Medics were called to the location and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene. Swift was taken into custody by the Detroit police officers at another location on the same day.

On November 13, 2019 Swift was charged and arraigned on one count of First Degree Premeditated Murder* and was remanded to jail. Her Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for November 20, 2019 at 8:30 p.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for November 25, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge Kenyetta Jones in 36th District Court.
